Don't Go Solo

This morning I read Ecclesiastes 4 and what stood out to me was God's message on loneliness.

This chapter emphasizes that it is not good to experience the ups and downs of life alone. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12) When it comes to the downs of life, is harder to get back up when you are all by yourself and trying to figure out things on your own. So, when you are struggling with something, it will be so much easier to get over that problem, or figure out a solution to that problem, when you have another person by your side who can help you out. Proverbs even had talked about the wisdom of having other people to help guide you. (See Proverbs 11:14; 15:22;19:20; 20:18) So, be wise and seek to have close friendships where you can be authentic and real and share your struggles.

This chapter also emphasized that it is not good to go through the ups of life alone too. (Ecclesiastes 4:8) This verse wonders what is the point of accumulating much wealth if it will only benefit yourself? The point of your blessings and gains is to create something beautiful that will bless others. Let your labor become a blessing to your family and especially those who have no one to help them. (See Psalm 41:1, Proverbs 22:9) Be generous and bless others with your riches.

So, don't experience life alone. Put yourself out there and seek genuine relationships!

When I read through this parable last week, I felt led to talk about the struggle of feeling mentally lost and insignificant because of where you are right now - whatever those circumstances may be. I want you to look at this story and see how Jesus is telling us that God cares a lot about the wellbeing of each and every one of us. I want to encourage you to see how valuable you are to God right where you are. So you know where I’m going with this. Here’s a quick summary of the parable, and I think it’s a good idea to read it in the context of all of chapter 15. Jesus starts with a story of a man losing one of his sheep; he describes how the man leaves the other 99 sheep to go after the 1 that was lost. When the man finds the lost sheep, he puts the sheep on his shoulders, brings it home, and gathers his friends ...
