Dust

Slowly, I've been working my way through Lysa Terkeurst book, It's Not Supposed to be This Way and would highly recommend reading it. I love the concept of dust that is discussed to describe our lives and how God is a Master Potter and works with dust -- works on us and our brokenness to make something new and better! Today I was reading my Bible and Moses' prayer in Psalm 90 was a very cool connection to most of what I have been reading. I wanted to share a short segment that I highlighted and my prayer that goes with it.

3: You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!”
12: So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
14: Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15: Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16: Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children.
17: Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

My Prayer
We are called back to the dust. Our lives on Earth are temporary. So Lord, even with the struggling of our days, bring meaning, joy, and peace to our existence here until we are called to our end. Give us wisdom so that can experience a joyful and peaceful life and can have an expectation of more joy to come after we are called to dust. Amen.

Insignificance: Parable of the Lost Son

Hello! Women's Prayer Call Series: Parable of the Lost Son Today I want to share my thoughts on the parable of the lost son which is found in Luke 15 verses 11 through 32. When I read through this parable last week, I felt led to talk about the struggle of feeling mentally lost and insignificant because of where you are right now - whatever those circumstances may be. I want you to look at this story and see how Jesus is telling us that God cares a lot about the wellbeing of each and every one of us. I want to encourage you to see how valuable you are to God right where you are. So you know where I’m going with this. Here’s a quick summary of the parable, and I think it’s a good idea to read it in the context of all of chapter 15. Jesus starts with a story of a man losing one of his sheep; he describes how the man leaves the other 99 sheep to go after the 1 that was lost. When the man finds the lost sheep, he puts the sheep on his shoulders, brings it home, and gathers his friends ...

Practice Makes Righteous

There were two things that stood out to me in Proverbs 11 . I learned about using discretion and about generosity. Solomon's words show that those who practice these two things are wise. Practice being gracious: Verse 12 : He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace. Verse 13 : A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. Practice giving lavishly: Verse 24 : There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. Verse 25 : The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Verse 26 : He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. Last Sunday, my Pastor's teaching was on the Godly principle of giving and tithing. He pointed out that the expectation for us to give is a test tied to a promise. He t...

Belly Check

I enjoyed reading Proverbs 20 . In Solomon's style of pointing out observations, he reminds us we need God's counsel to be the compass for our soul. I want to highlight my observations of his message to us. Our Compass : Proverbs 20:9-13 Solomon implores us to assess our actions through the lens of what's right in God's eyes. God is our guide and measurement for what is good and evil. Solomon's warning about sleep points to a spiritual slumber caused by not growing in our faith in God. This leads to an impoverished soul. Solomon says to "open thine eyes." We need to be alert and be aware of our spiritual state of being. We need to cultivate our spirit with God's word and direction. Solomon points out that when our eyes are open, we "shalt be satisfied with bread," meaning our soul will be filled. Our Counsel : Proverbs 20:5, 20:18, 20:24 I pondered over these verses for some time because I had a feeling there was something good that ne...
